Everlene shared the following with me after I presented to her Virginia Partners in Policymaking class:

Hearing your accomplishments after fighting so hard for your son, Benj, reminded me when my mom and dad fought for me to receive an education, drive a car with hand controls, attend Woodrow Wilson Rehab school and work as a typist. Daddy stayed in the Principals' and School superindentents' offices begging for help. I had polio at age 7 in 1945. Dad said I would get an education if it took his last penny (he didn't have many) and the last thing he did on earth. Therefore; I remain an advocate for all people with disabilities to follow their dreams, including getting married. I married a soldier, had six children, and we stayed married for 39 years until death did us part. Continue on!
